Southern Kindergarten Rankings 2026
33 schools ranked by composite score
Southern — Choosing a School
Southern has one of Hong Kong's highest concentrations of international schools, though not by kindergarten count (just 33 district-wide). Repulse Bay, Stanley and Pok Fu Lam host German Swiss (half-day fees up to $236,400, among the city's priciest), Canadian International, Singapore International, the Italian International school and several Montessori campuses — 12 schools (36%) run non-local curricula, serving expatriate and international-track families across the district and beyond. The local side is mostly community non-profits, with 19 (58%) in the Free Scheme, clustered in Ap Lei Chau, Aberdeen and Wah Fu public-housing communities. The choice logic is clear: top-tier international options and community Free-Scheme options both exist, while local private choices in between are relatively few.
Non-local = international / non-local curriculum. Dual-track schools appear under both tabs.
The best kindergarten is where your child thrives — not the one with the highest score.
FAQ
Which kindergartens are good in Southern?
Southern's strength is international curricula. For an international/overseas route, German Swiss, Singapore, Canadian and the Montessori international school are all top-tier; for a free community school, St. Peter's Catholic (free, Ming Pao A+) is well-regarded. Decide international vs local first, then compare via our Southern rankings.
Is Southern suited to international-track families?
Very much so — this is Southern's strongest suit. Repulse Bay, Stanley and Pok Fu Lam host German Swiss, Canadian, Singapore and Italian international schools plus several Montessori campuses, spanning German, English, Canadian, Singaporean and Italian systems — one of Hong Kong's most concentrated clusters of international curricula. Fees run high; German Swiss half-day reaches $236,400/year. For an IB or overseas-transfer goal, families can choose locally without crossing districts.
Does Southern have affordable or free local kindergartens?
Yes. 19 schools (58%) join the Free Scheme with no tuition — mostly community non-profits in Ap Lei Chau, Aberdeen, Wah Fu and Lei Tung estates, such as St. Peter's Catholic Kindergarten (free, Ming Pao A+). International schools and community Free-Scheme schools serve two very different sets of families; Free-Scheme participation is Southern's biggest fee divide.
How widely do fees vary in Southern?
The spread is among the widest in Hong Kong. The 19 Free-Scheme schools charge nothing for half-day; local private options are few (half-day roughly $96,030 to $110,520); international/non-local schools range from about $10,000 to $236,400, with German Swiss among the city's priciest. Mid-priced local private schools are relatively scarce — a structural feature of Southern's landscape.
How many kindergartens are in Southern?
Southern has 33 kindergartens: 19 (58%) join the Free Scheme, 18 offer PN (nursery, age 2) classes, and 12 run non-local curricula. The count is modest, but its international-curriculum density is among Hong Kong's highest, while the local side is mainly community Free-Scheme schools.
